Greenbelt
2007 - Heaven in Ordinary.
Molten Meditation Report. |

| Thanks
to everyone for their thoughts and prayers over this our second Greenbelt
weekend - we had another amazing time.
This year we were mostly preoccupied with babies. It was Alfie and Theo's first camping trip which was very exciting but also brought its own challenges. The sun was baking all
weekend and yet chilly at night and the romantic idea of the baby sleeping
soundly between our sleeping bags really didn't happen. It's all part
of the experience I guess but did result in us all being exhausted for
most of the weekend. Still, the diet of curries, chips and ice cream
saw us through .

| Molten
Meditation's contribution came in two parts:
On the Friday evening we took an hour of worship in the contemplative "SoulSpace" area where we had around 90 slightly bemused but outwardly polite people who engaged in two meditations comprising of music, scripture and a video accompaniment. In between we joined together in our now infamous string tying exercise and it was really good to see people praying for each other. |
||||||
| The
second contribution was an meditation installation which ran for the whole
weekend open to anyone to come, plug in and enjoy a meditation. A miracle
of computer technology it seemed to work really well and appeared to be
in constant use in it's little corner up in SoulSpace. The pictures don't really do it justice - it was a thing of beauty greatly enhanced by the sign created by artist Andy Povey (http://www.andypovey.com). The Molten Meditation Station made two meditations available with video. You simply sat on our huge bean bags, put on the headphones and then hit button A or B. It was great to see it being used and is certainly something we'll use again - probably at "Mind, Body and Spirit Fairs" which are on our hearts at the moment. I've now put the Meditation B video online for you to stream or download completely free - click here |

Other
Highlights.
Mixed in a lot of stuff over the weekend. |

| The
best inspirational speakers for me were: Ched Myers - old skool christian radical who ties himself to things in the name of peace and puts himself in the firing line. His best talk was entitled "hope is where your arse is" which you can download from the Greenbelt online shop. Mark Yaconelli - Founder of Youth Specialities, developer of a contemplative approach to youth work and son of Mike Yaconelli who changed my life at Greenbelt some 20 years previous. Pete Rollins - Founder member of Ikon a strange church that emerged in Belfast. He's the most extraordinary thinker/theologian/philosopher whose seminars leave your head feeling like it's been broken open and your brain massaged until it becomes twice the size. His book "How (not) to speak to God" is one of my all time favourites. Ikon - They put on an amazing theodrama service which included a puppet narrator, a 20 foot tall woman being unravelled, the apostles creed projected onto screens which could be, and was, edited by anyone during the service. They did a string tying thing - i wonder where they stole that idea!? Lots of other good stuff was on too late and we'd be too knackered to attend or had babies to deal with. But with the weather so good it was marvellous just to find a spot to eat curry, play with Alfie and listen to the sounds coming from the Christian Aid performance tent. |
